According to an official press release from the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of El Salvador (PROESA), in the last week of November 2018, El Salvador made the first business encounter between El Salvador and the Republic of China, accomplishing in this meeting $10,910,000 dollars in exports that the Salvadoran companies plan to materialize with the companies from the Republic of China , after signing 14 commercial agreements that emerged as a result of a business round held on November 29 in El Salvador. The trade agreements included economic sectors such as coffee, wood and rum.

This event was organized by the Department of Foreign Trade Development of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of El Salvador (PROESA), with the objective to facilitate the commercial relationships between the both countries.

In the same event, 17 Chinese companies from different industries such as textiles, mining, pharmaceutical, agricultural, petrochemistry and commercial participated in it, which were part of a business mission that visited El Salvador and was organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. The representatives of the firms held business meetings with Salvadoran exports companies of various goods.

After the celebration of the business round mentioned above, an act of signing agreements or letters of intention was held and was celebrated by the Governments’ representatives of El Salvador and the People’s Republic of China. In this event were involved approximately 100 people from different relevant government departments, business associations and business representatives. Wang Dontang, Deputy General Director of the Department of Foreign Trade of the People’s Republic of China; Merlin Barrera, Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry of El Salvador; Sigfrido Reyes, President of PROESA and Ou Jianhong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in El Salvador were present to preside the signing act.

The Chinese side expressed that the nation will firmly implement the concept of innovation, coordination, ecological development, openness and shared development and will create more opportunities for China to share its benefits with other countries.

In this same line, the Government’s representatives of El Salvador expressed that the organization of this commercial mission to El Salvador fully demonstrates that the Chinese government has given a great importance to the economic and trade relations between China and El Salvador.

In this business encounter between Chinese and Salvadoran companies, it opened opportunities for the participating export companies to have a direct approach to buyers from the People’s Republic of China, providing them with an additional platform to show their exportable offer of goods, in order to initiate short, medium or long term business relationships.
